Group Captain Puneet Sharma is a Graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering (B.Tech (Hons) from prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra. He completed his graduation in the year 1988. Same year he was recommended for Indian Air Force by 1 AFSB Dehradun in his first attempt and joined his dream profession as a Pilot Officer. During his career spanning over 29 years, he held many important portfolios that of including Chief Technical Officer and Commanding Officer of Static and Mobile Signals units. He has the distinction of having commanded three highly Operational Signals Units as Squadron Leader.

He is a trained instructor and was topper of prestigious Method of Instructions Course at Ground Instructors’ School Tambaram, Chennai. After course completion, he did a long Instructional Tenure at one of the premier Technical Training School conducting courses for IAF Officers and ORs at Bangalore.

In the year 1999, GP Captain Puneet Sharma actively participated in Kargil conflict as Commanding Officer of a Mobile Communication Unit and was deployed at Dera Baba Nanak close to International Border in Gurdaspur district of Punjab for two Months. For his selfless and exceptional services to the IAF, he was rewarded with Chief of Air Staff Commendation.

In the year 2009 he was selected by IAF to undergo 224 GTOs course at Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) New Delhi. After successful completion of theoretical and Practical training of the GT technique he got the distinction to serve at three AFSBs for a total duration of Eight years as Senior GTO.

His tenure as a GTO spanning Eight years has been rich and rewarding. He not only mastered the technique but also worked at Inter Services Board’s level. His professional excellence and ease with the technique also brought his way the opportunity to guide and groom many future GTOs. Imparting training to other Officers regarding Group Testing methodology sharpened his own skills to observe personalities more critically. His prolonged association with the selection process also provided him to deeply understand the nuances of the other two techniques. This holistic exposure and in depth interaction with the selection process also helped him realize the intuitive and preemptive aspects of his personality.

Group Captain Puneet Sharma was a key member of Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) Project Implementation team of the IAF. Being an engineer, he was handpicked by IAF to conduct various trials on CPSS during Pilot Project commissioning at 2 AFSB Mysore. His involvement and contribution in timely commissioning of CPSS was highly appreciated by Air HQ. He was also involved in carrying out many independent studies and data analysis regarding erstwhile PABT vis a vis CPSS to develop Norms and Statistical cut offs for CPSS.

It is his passion and involvement with the selection process that has motivated him to start SSB Orientation and Grooming Classes for young defense aspirants.  He is a firm believer of the fact that process is more important than end result. If the process is right the end result will surely be right. If correct guidance and development of awareness about one’s inner self is imparted with sincerity and genuine intent that can successfully transform personality in terms of improved observational, analytical and reasoning skills and make them achieve their desired goals in life.
